February 2014
As you noticed in our last e-mail, there are some changes
being initiated in our structure but the work is the same. It’s still your calling and responsibility to
serve as a resource for your Bishop and Relief Society President in meeting the
Provident Living needs of your ward or branch.
Our job is to support you and be your go-to resource. We are so grateful for your continuing
efforts and faithful follow through. Feel free to e-mail or call us anytime you
have a question or need help.
Here are a few really great websites for Provident
Living E-mail blasts, workshops or individual PL support. I know I’m going to spend some quality time
in the free garden planting guides.

One secret of store brands--or "private label"
brands with seemingly bargain quality--is that they're often made by the same
companies …
Costco is one of the best places to buy quality
ingredients in bulk and save money on food.
With just one trip and $150, you can pick up enough to make nearly three weeks'
worth of dinners (4 servings each)—and have lots of leftovers.
With just a few hours of your time, you can make enough
meals to cover you for weeks. And you can do it really inexpensively.
$5 Dinners offers not just one but two Costco meal plans,
complete with shopping lists and recipes. (You can buy a packet of printable
shopping lists and recipes on the site for $1.49.) Several of the meals are
freezer friendly can be a great time-saver.
While prices in your area might vary, the two meal plans at
least offer insights into how to stretch your bulk buys into a wide variety of
meals. My favorite part of it, though, is it cuts down on the number of grocery
shopping trips you have to make each month: With one trip, you can pick up just
about all you need for the majority of the month.
Is There a Black Hole in YOUR Budget?
John Schmoll from FrugalRules.com]
What do you think of when you hear the term black hole? According to NASA, some of the hallmark characteristics of black holes are
invisibility and varying size. They literally can’t be seen, and can be sized
anywhere from a puddle to a sea.
What does this have to do with budgeting? A lot actually.
Budgeting black holes are any untracked expenses in your
budget. Depending on what you are or aren’t
tracking, these holes can be so tiny that they are virtually unnoticeable, or
so large that they could be derailing all of your efforts to save money, spend
wisely and invest for the future.
Many of you are experienced enough to cook off
the cuff and out of the cookbook. But don't go swapping just any ingredient in
a recipe for any other. Every edible element plays a role. SAJ14SAJ, an expert
cook at Stack Exchange, lays out some helpful substitution guidelines.
The folks over at Serious Eats devised a delicious microwave
cake you can make in a single bowl so you don't dirty too many dishes. Then you
just microwave that bowl for five minutes and you have a fudge-filled chocolate
cake.
When we know
that these drinks do nothing for us health wise, why do we still crave and
guzzle them?
